Role & Experience

J. Bryan Nugen is the President of Nugen Law, A Professional Corporation, and the firm’s lead elder law and estate planning attorney. For more than three decades he has advised individuals, families, and closely held businesses on estate planning, asset protection, Medicaid planning, probate and trust administration, and business transactions. Bryan is licensed to practice in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Florida, as well as the Northern and Southern District Courts of Indiana. He is also a VA Accredited Attorney and a Certified Dementia Practitioner; credentials that deepen his ability to guide veterans, seniors, and their families with informed, compassionate counsel.

How He Helps Clients

Bryan’s practice is built around clear strategy and disciplined execution. He designs and reviews wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and advance directives; aligns beneficiary designations and asset titling; and develops trust-based asset-protection plans that consider tax, family, and long-term care goals. In Medicaid and veterans’ benefits planning, he evaluates eligibility, transfer and spend-down considerations, and documentation so applications are coordinated and compliant. During probate and trust administration, he provides a practical roadmap including deadlines, filings, and communication, so fiduciaries can fulfill their duties with confidence.

Leadership & Innovation

In addition to his legal practice, Bryan is the owner of TrueCare™, a family of services – TrueCare Seniors and TrueCare Homes – created to simplify life for seniors and their families through coordinated care and living arrangements. This perspective informs his holistic approach to elder law and estate planning: legal strategy is connected to real-world care, housing, and quality of life, resulting in plans that are both legally sound and deeply personal.

Credentials & Admissions

Bryan earned his Juris Doctor from Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Indiana University Bloomington. He is admitted in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, and the Northern and Southern District Courts of Indiana. He is also a VA Accredited Attorney and a Certified Dementia Practitioner.  His multi-state licensure allow him to guide complex, multi-jurisdictional families and business owners with insight, precision, and care.
